Vision and Mandate of the CYHNEO

A network is a group of autonomous individuals and organizations that comes together to accomplish goals that no one can accomplish alone. It is a mechanism to identify and create opportunities, and to act on those opportunities in pursuit of a common vision of:

communities of healthy children and youth, based on the World
Health Organization's definition of health as a "resource for everyday

life...emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical

          capacity.

To improve the health services and health of children and youth, the CYHNEO will address a range of initiatives: from planning and priority setting to modeling integration and cross-sectoral partnerships; from innovative program development and advocacy to community capacity building; from system integration to networking.

Our Values

We value

  • the rights, individuality and diversity of each child and youth as outlined in the Convention of the Rights of the Child (United Nations 1989)
  • the principle of working in partnership - with children, youth and their families, and with all service providers in Eastern Ontario communities.
  • a service delivery system that is responsive, flexible, effective, efficient and creative.
  • opportunities to take risks, to create and to do things differently.

As partners for the health and well-being of children and youth, we agree to:

  • build on our individual and collective capabilities and resources
  • respect and value each other's opinions and ideas
  • respect each other's differences and diversity
  • work together toward common goals
  • ensure that the focus of our efforts is stays where it belongs: on children and youth
  • engage in open, honest and transparent communication
  • work collaboratively and inclusively
  • meet regularly, and ensue that appropriate time is allowed for discussion of each issue
  • reach decisions by majority vote, while recording objections and abstentions, and working toward consensus wherever possible
  • develop and implement a process for the ongoing evaluation of this important partnership and our work
  • be advocates for the CYHNEO
  • be creative, take risks, be action-oriented, and have fun.
