Fun Friends: Resiliency Skills Training for Professionals Working with Children and Youth (4-7 years)

Did you know that anxiety...
  • Has been increasing and is affecting children at younger ages than before
  • Is the most common mental health problem among children and youth today (more prevalent than ADHD, behaviour disorders, or substance use disorders),
  • Causes a great deal of distress and suffering,
  • Can interfere with a child’s healthy development and functioning (academic, social) and persist into adulthood
Become Certified in FRIENDS Anxiety Prevention and Intervention Program.  Attending this one-day training will certify you to implement FRIENDS with groups of children in educational, health or social service settings.

Adapted from Dr. Paula Barrett’s evidence based FRIENDS program and designed specifically for 4 to 7 years old children, Fun FRIENDS is a positive, play-based program that focuses on increasing social-emotional competence and wellness. Fun FRIENDS actively involves children, parents and teachers in the intervention process and teaches them practical, useful strategies for coping with stress, worry, fear and sadness.
FUN FRIENDS teaches social and emotional skills that build children’s resilience such as:

  • Behaving assertively
  • Recognizing body clues
  • Identifying emotions in self and others
  • Relaxation and self-soothing
  • Self-regulation
  • Empathy and kindness toward others
  • Friendship and pro-social skills
  • Cognitive problem-solving skills
  • Being brave and facing feared situations
  • Looking for the positive in situations
  • Changing unhelpful to helpful thoughts
